How To Write Better Essays A passionate essay writer always wants to add multiple arguments in his/her essay. But in a short essay, you have to control yourself. Only put useful arguments and weed out irrelevant ones. The claim set forth in argumentative essays may be an opinion, an evaluation, an interpretation, cause-effect statement or a policy proposal. The purpose of argumentative essays is to convince or persuade the reader that a claim is valid. You have to make sure what the question wants you to write. Students sometimes in a hurry fail to understand the topic and end up writing on something else. The three paragraphs in the body part should support the thesis statement. As for the conclusion part, it should not only sum up the argument, but it should also lift up the idea presented in the essay. Ideas which you will present in the essay should be logical, and there should be an easy flow. Your introduction should build up the interest of the audience, and it should be clear that what is the topic. The major feature of a short essay is that you have to limit down the words of your arguments and ideas. Short essays have a specific structure to be followed. 1 paragraph Introduction, 3 paragraphs body, and 1 paragraph conclusion. Get out a piece of paper and make a list of all the different topics that fit the purpose of your essay. Once they're all down on paper, start by eliminating those topics that are difficult or not as relevant as others topics. Once you have defined the purpose of your essay, it's time to brainstorm. Take some time to consider, contrast and weight your options. If the purpose of your essay is to explain a process, write down each step of the process. In each smaller circle, write a main idea about your topic, or point you want to make. If this is persuasive essay, then write down your arguments. If the object of the essay is to explain a process , then write down a step in each circle. If your essay is intended to be informative or explain , write the major categories into which information can be divided. It is to check for any grammatical or other logical errors. A short essay is very different from long essays. While writing long essays, you have full freedom to express your ideas in a much bigger space. But, in short essay, you may feel that you donĂ¢t have much space to make an argument, as you need to be precise with your words. Also, get rid of those topics that are too challenging or that you're just not that interested in. Pretty soon you will have whittled your list down to just a few topics and then you can make a final choice. Argumentative - These type of essays, also known as persuasive essays, make a specific claim about a topic and then provide evidence and arguments to support the claim. But, be alert, never remove the most convincing points or else your essay will lose its purpose. The first thing before you initiate the writing process is reading. You can underline important information or encircle the main question. The main parts that build up a short essay are introduction, body and a conclusion. Introduction and conclusion should not be more than one paragraph, and the body can be about 3 paragraphs. Your ideas should be very clear from the beginning itself. Your essay should need to respond to an argument or a question. You can even present your individual opinion or view.
